A family in San Patricio County is home for the holidays – in a brand new home – two years after Hurricane Harvey.
Angela Sique and her daughters are getting a Christmas present they’ll never forget.
A new home, to replace this one, which used to sit on the same lot.
But Hurricane Harvey hit and did damage, leaving mildew and a leaking roof behind.
“My twins’ room was leaking so we had to rearrange where there beds were so they wouldn’t have the water tap tap on their heads as they were sleeping,” Sique said.
Eventually, this old mobile home became uninhabitable. And in stepped a community of volunteer groups to provide the Sique family a brand new replacement.
And man, is it nice …
Furnished bedrooms, state of the art appliances and lots of storage space.
All, a Christmas gift.
No house payment? No house payment. No rent? No rent.
And no more worries about water dripping on their heads as they sleep.
“Having this new manufactured home is amazing,” Sique said. “I never thought I would be able to live in something so beautiful.”
Not even a Category 4 hurricane could keep this family from finding peace, warmth and joy.
“It’s going to be an awesome Christmas,” she said. “An absolutely awesome Christmas.”
Since Hurricane Harvey hit in August 2017, the Coastal Bend Recovery Group has helped 56 families move into new homes.
